There are certain animals that terrify me, and certain animals that I'm not overly bothered about. Scorpions don't really fall into any of these categories, mainly because I never thought that I would come into contact with one.
This all changed during our stay in Bologna, northern Italy. It was your average Sunday afternoon, and I was in the process of picking up a towel that we were taking to the local lavanderia (laundrette/laundromat). Towel picked up, I noticed something scuttle off from underneath it, and that's when we saw this.
I didn't really jump or anything, mainly because I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking at. Sure, it looked like a scorpion, a lot, but I didn't think there were any in Italy, so it couldn't be, right?
Turns out it was indeed a scorpion, and they're actually quite common! This scorpion couldn't have been bigger than a couple of inches, and looks like it is one of these.
This incident certainly livened up our Sunday, and I'm definitely going to be a lot more vigilant around the studio apartment. They are not venomous, but their sting can still be dangerous, especially if you have an allergy to bees or wasps.
Hopefully there are no similar incidents going forward!
