Moving on to Gran Canaria

I've often mentioned in these posts, that I'm not really much of a planner. I still don't know where I'm heading after this stay for instance, but my trip to Gran Canaria was planned when I was back in London. Amazing right?

When I had finally committed to leaving talkSPORT and begin travelling, I wanted to ensure that my first couple of months were sorted. First up was Bologna, and I had a wonderful month exploring the city and further afield. I'm keen to follow the sun for a while, and having been to Fuerteventura in January, another Canary Island made sense.

It's hot, but not too hot, and as I'm planning to do some work to pay for these adventures, I wanted somewhere with not too many distractions. Step forward Pozo Izquierdo in Gran Canaria.

I've started looking for 4 week stays on Airbnb, as you get really good discounts on that length of time, so searched the island for my month's stay. I ended up in this cute little apartment (ignore my clothes laying around and the sofa I'm using as a sanctuary for my caps), and I'm really happy with my choice.

My stay in Bologna was great, but the apartment was tiny, and the other half was with me for the majority, so it got a bit cosy. This apartment actually has space to walk around in, and is just a couple of minutes walk from the beach.

I'd had a couple of flights cancelled, but managed to get a Ryanair flight from Bologna to Gran Canaria, which was ideal. I stayed in an airport hotel to have a chilled day, and catch up on sleep, but there was a bit of drama at the end of the day as I'd managed to lose my wallet. This led to a lot of unpacking, and repacking, and I eventually discovered that I'd left it in a hotel during my stay in Ancona.

This is super rare for me. I normally check and double check rooms when I leave, and I'm one of those who checks under the bed etc. Shout out the Albergo Italia hotel in Ancona for being so great in finding my wallet. Their communication was wonderful, and my friend who lives near the city was able to pick it up for me.

Bologna airport was nice and quiet, and check in was easy. I know some people aren't fans, but I don't mind Ryanair. Usually cheap fares, and you know what you're paying for. They can be a bit cramped, so it was amazing to discover I had a whole row to myself. I even managed to give my hat and bag a seat. I usually really struggle to sleep on planes, but the extra room made it easier to drift off, and I managed to sleep for the majority of the flight.

Pozo Izquierdo is wonderful. it's tiny, but exactly what I need at the moment after a pretty busy month in Italy. There are a couple of small shops, and a big windsurfing and kite surfing community. The wind is pretty constant, and I believe that the world windsurfing championships have been held here previously. This great local website has a webcam of the ocean, and updates on the weather conditions.

I had a fun couple of hours watching them do their thing the other day, and it's incredibly impressive. Most days I try and get to the beach for a few hours, where I catch up on the latest sport news, and try to improve on my t-shirt sun tan. There is a bigger town about a 45-minute walk away, and I went there on day 1 for a big shop. Since then, I've hardly spent any money, except for bottles of water and coke zero, obviously.

I'm feeling a lot more relaxed, and looking forward to my stay here. I'll be writing lots of posts on my various trips throughout Italy, so stay tuned for those as well. I'll leave you with these few photos, which are just minutes away from my rented accomodation.
